A Roaring Lion

In this life we have troubles, and we get down. We need something, someone to help us out of it!

Sometimes we come across a poem or a word of inspiration that we instantly connect with. We say, "Yes, that's exactly how I feel! And how did this person come out of it? Like that? Oh, then I want to do that!" Because, we all want to be happy. We all want to experience peace and happiness.

But, as you're reading those words of inspiration, do you ever get a check in your spirit? Do you ever think, "Hmmm ... something doesn't seem right about this!"

And you feel like you should dig deeper into the motivation behind the person spilling forth all of that inspiration.

So you dig.

And then you see a link to another website. And it's called dianetics.org. And you wonder, "What's that?" So you follow the link.

And what you see there is a reference to L. Ron Hubbard. And you think, "Huh, that name sounds familiar."

So you Google it.

And you learn that L. Ron Hubbard is the leader of the Scientology movement.

Scientologists do not believe that Jesus Christ is God's only begotten Son. They do not believe that he died on the cross for our sins and rose on the third day to sit at the right hand of God. They do not believe that He is coming again to take believers home to their Father. Their followers are Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, John Travolta and Kelly Preston, Kirstie Alley, and millions of others.

L. Ron Hubbard is a false prophet.

But, his words and his followers make us feel so good. They seem to give us all the answers we seek for true happiness.

And they will lead us straight to hell when this life is over.

Scary.

I am a Jesus-following, Savior proclaiming Christian! I must be ever-mindful of the falsities that are out there, even the ones that make me feel good and happy and complete, even the ones that totally "get me" and give me "the answers I seek."

We need something, someone to help us out of it! And that Someone is Jesus. And only Jesus. He does have the answers we seek. We just have to be willing to seek them. And it can't be as easy as browsing through the internet (although I do believe there are God-fearing Christians out there who are doing an awesome job of spreading the Gospel on the internet.)

Pick up your Bible today. If you have troubles, if you have sadness, if you just have questions, Pick It Up! Don't know where to start? Just open it up and start reading.

If you seek Him, He will be found by you. ~ 1 Chronicles 28:9

That is a promise from God Himself! Test Him on it! He will not allow Himself to be made a liar or a fool.

*The events in this post happened to me. It was an innocent and random thing. I wasn't even searching for anything. I just happened upon a poem on another blog and it lead me down this path.

Be careful, my friends.

Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. ~ 1 Peter 5:8

  2. What a great reminder for us all, Nicole!! Can't trust every source out there! This very thing was actually touched on at our Beth Moore Study last night. Interesting!!

  3. Isn't it curious to find that out about him. My ex is a scientologist and my two children are now telling him about the love they have for Christ!

  4. "I am a Jesus-following, Savior proclaiming Christian!"

Amen! Right on! Keep preaching! Scientology and other cults/false religions will continue to gain members and momentum. But, we can and will persevere b/c we have something they don't - Jesus Christ and truth.

    Good post.

  5. Your post was great today and sooo true. I am always finding things that touch me, only to find later that they are false or satan trying to get to me. I won't let it happen.
Also, I do get to go to the Island with my hubby at least once a year. We are trying to decided if I am going this time or not. Kind of at a bad time with the holidays around the corner. I only hate it when he calls me & tells me it is 80 degrees and I am sitting home in 30 degree weather. LOL, that is just so mean.
And yes, it never fails, something always goes wrong when he is gone for a long period of time. Last year he was gone when we experience hurrican winds and I live in Ky. The whole city was pretty much shut down for a week. Thank God it happened in Sept. and it was nice out. But it was scary in the night with me home alone with 4 kids & no electricity. Thank God I have wonderful neighbors that kept their eyes on us & were always there to help us.
    Have a great week.

  6. Hi Nicole,
I stumbled upon you at Lysa's and just got lost in your blog. I LOVE your bargin hunting ideas (I have a child who was born 1 week before Easter, so we have done an Easter themed birthday for her first 2 and I have been able to get incredible stuff at Wally-World for 1/2 off. Also, we HATE to throw out food and have come up with some really creative ways to recycle leftovers. You bless me with your "My Husband Rocks" posts and your "Terrific Kid Wednesday" posts. THIS POST was an amazing blessing! In today's world we can really get deceived by the enemy if we are not guarded and careful. I appreciate the Holy Spirit in you that gave you that check that in turn you felt you needed to search further to uncover the truth. Your blog is a blessing. Have an awesome weekend with your precious family!
    Blessings,
    Marilois
