Rick Rocks ~ A Special "Get to Know Us" Edition
My friend Lucy at Lucy's Life did a blog post the other day about her and her husband. I thought this might be a fun thing to do for my Rick Rocks post this week. Things have been pretty heavy around here lately, so I decided to lighten up a bit this week.
♥ What are your middle names?
Rick's is Noel, after his grandfather, and I don't actually have a middle name. I was Nicole O'Neal at birth and am now Nicole O'Neal Taulman.
♥How long have you been together?
Nine years this month.
♥ How long did you know each other before you started dating?
About half a minute. Actually, maybe about 2-3 days after we first met.
♥ Who asked who out?
Rick asked me.
♥ Who made the first move?
Definitely him, at a picnic table at a park where we were walking. I didn't exactly make it difficult for him, though.
♥ How old are each of you?
Rick is 39 and I am 38.
♥ Did you go to the same school?
Nope. He went to high school in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and college at Oklahoma State. I went to high school in a small town in Missouri, undergrad at Central Missouri State University, and law school at University of Missouri - Kansas City.
♥ Are you from the same home town?
Nope. See question above.
♥ Who is the smartest?
I think we are smart in different ways. He's brilliant at what he does. I'm brilliant at what I do.
♥ Who majored in what?
I have a BS/BA in Business Administration with a major in Office Administration, and a law degree. Rick majored in engineering.
♥ Who is the most sensitive?
Definitely Rick! In fact, we often laugh that he is the wife in our marriage.
♥ Where do you eat out most as a couple?
We love Olive Garden and Red Robin. But after this weekend I think we will frequent Baja Jack's!
♥ Where is the furthest you two have traveled together as a couple?
Bermuda.
♥ Who has the worst temper?
Rick does. I get irritated easily and voice it quickly. Rick gets irritated easily and stuffs it, so it comes out harsher when it finally does.
♥ How many children do you want?
No more! We have five children total, four of which are with us full time. We love our children, but we don't want to love anymore!
♥ Who does the cooking?
Me.
♥ Who is more social?
I would say Rick. I'm social, but pig-headed about it. He is always the life of the party!
♥ Who is the neat-freak?
Good grief, Rick. We have separate closets. He has often said about mine, and my car, that he doesn't know how I live like that!
♥ Who is the most stubborn?
I'm going to have to say me. He gives in lots. I tend to dig my feet in the ground over even the smallest of things.
♥ Who wakes up earlier?
Definitely me! Rick's ideal day would be to stay up until about 2 a.m. and sleep until noon, at least!
♥ Where was your first date?
Zio's in Springfield, Missouri, then a walk in a park, then sitting on my front porch covered up in a blanket talking for hours.
♥ Who has the bigger family?
We each have a brother and sister. He has more parents (both his parents are remarried) than I do, but I have more living grandparents. I would say my family is larger.
♥ Do you get flowers often?
Nope. He used to get them for me all the time. But, they are so expensive that I don't want him wasting money on them! A small bunch from the grocery store might be nice every once in a while.
♥ How do you spend the holidays?
We try to make time just for our little family. But, we always try to spend time with extended, as well. We typically spend Thanksgiving with my family in Missouri. We always spend Christmas Eve with Rick's sister and her family. As of late, we've had my family here on Christmas Eve, too, and then they spend the night for Christmas day. That's my favorite because I get to cook and stuff on Christmas and it's fun to do with my whole family here.
♥ Who is more jealous?
I'm going to have to say Rick, although I don't think we either one really have a jealous streak. He probably gets more jealous of my time than anything.
♥ How long did it take to get serious?
I knew I was going to marry him the night of our first date, actually probably before.
♥ Who eats more?
I can certainly hold my own!
♥ What do you do for a living?
I take care of my family and waste half of my life on the computer. Oh, wait, I don't make a living at either of those things. I do babysit 3, 4-year old girls part-time throughout the week. Rick is a structural engineer and awesome dad!
♥ Who does the laundry?
All me on this one. In fact, after we had lived in our new house for six months (and had a new washer and dryer), he called me while I was scrapbooking one night to find out how to use the washer. I told him to go ahead and thank me now for the fact that he hadn't used that washing machine yet.
♥ Who’s better with the computer?
Definitely HIM!
♥ Who drives when you are together?
He hates for me to drive, but lets me if he is exhausted and needs to sleep.
♥ What is "your" song?
"From this Moment" by Shania Twain and Brian White, although it really is a sappy song that makes me want to gag.
So, there you have it. A little more information about Rick and I so you can see how we tick.
Oh, and by the way ... Rick Rocks!!
