My Birthday

I was in a bad mood the weekend of my birthday.

You know, I was in a bad mood on my birthday last year, too. And it has nothing to do with getting older because I really don't care about that. Honestly, I think I look better now than I have ever looked.

Last year Rick got me up on my birthday and sent me away, alone, for the day. I browsed around the shops in town and he called me around lunch time and met me for lunch. I really didn't enjoy being alone.

He tried to do the same thing to me the day before my birthday this past weekend. But I refused to leave the house. To be alone made me sad. I guess Misery just wanted company {poor family}.

I was in a funk.

So he left instead to go hit golf balls and run some errands. Can't say I blame him. {I know he didn't leave to get away from me! He will just take any opportunity to play his sport, and I was no use to him anyway so the timing was perfect!}

When he returned that night he brought me home flowers, a special breakfast for the next morning, a small chocolate cake for my birthday, and chips, salsa and beer for that night.

After the kids went to bed we cozied up on the couch and ate our chips and salsa and drank beer and watched Lie to Me.

It was just what I needed.

I got up on my birthday, to an excited 4 year old wishing me Happy Birthday over and over. She gave me her picture she had made me and then went and made me several more.

Dawson had texted me at 12:02 a.m. to be the first to wish me Happy Birthday. Later in the day ... 12 hours later to be exact ... he finally got out of bed and gave me the collage he had made me. Loved the coffee cup!!!

I smelled on my flowers for a moment ...

(Look at my chicken neck!)

I ate one of my special Bavarian Cream donuts ...

(This could be one reason why I now have a "waddle".)

I opened my cards from my mom and mother-in-law and then took pictures of my gifts with my new camera Rick got me for my birthday. (Remember that I dropped mine in the waterfall in Hawaii???) I love taking pictures, so I am so glad to have a purse-sized camera again! Rick's camera takes great pictures, but it's just too big for me to lug around with everything else I am typically lugging around.

I lazed around for a while, took some birthday phone calls from my daughter, mom, niece and sister, and then Dawson and I went to get groceries. We picked up Tess to hang out for a while.

Her and her sweet mom got me a card and a $25 gift card to Starbucks!! That was so nice!

When we got home I fixed the kids a quick dinner and then Rick and I went out. I got a phone call from my dad on the way to the restaurant. We ate dinner at Lonestar and then went and did Brynne's birthday shopping since her birthday is next Sunday.

We came home, and like old farts, went to bed. At 1:00 a.m. my brother e-mailed me to wish me Happy Birthday. In his defense, it was still my birthday in Portland, Oregon, where he lives.

On Monday I got a card from my dad with some money in it. {Yea money! I got my nails and toes done and am going to get a new handbag for fall with that and the money my mom gave me.}

My birthday was complete, due to the ones I love and who love me back.

  2. Birthdays, for some reason, just aren't as fun as they used to be. I remember being sooo excited for them to come as a kid. Now, mine just seem like any other day! I think maybe responsibility has choked them out! I hope your heart feels better soon. If you ever need a shopping buddy, let me know. I don't think we live too far apart. Happy late birthday Nicole ♥
